Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu Information
Mossy Oak is an outdoor living brand based in the United States. They specialize in activities such as hunting and fishing, but they also have a small range of dog food products under the sub-brand of Nature’s Menu.
Given that the dog food range is a store brand, it is only available from Mossy Oak stores or Dollar General Stores.
At this time, Mossy Oak does not sell their products online, and they are not sold by any of the large pet food websites like Chewy or Petflow.
Mossy Oak recipes are produced by Sunshine Mills, which has been in operation for more than 50 years.
The brand is based in Alabama, but they produce their recipes in multiple facilities across the United States.
Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu Product Range
Mossy Oak has a relatively small product range. This range consists of two dry dog food recipes and three wet/canned dog food recipes.
Mossy Oak does not produce any specialty recipes such as those for certain breeds, dog sizes, or ages.
Mossy Oak also produce a small range of jerky style dog treats.
At this time, Mossy Oak does not produce any cat food recipes.
Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu Nutrition
The nutrition offered by Mossy Oak dry dog food is above-average and consists of somewhat above-average protein and fat proportions.
However, there is still a considerable proportion of carbohydrates present in Mossy Oak dry recipes.
Below is an example of the nutrition offered by Mossy Oak dry dog food.
The nutrition offered by Mossy Oak wet/canned dog food is superior to their dry food and consists of higher proportions of both protein and fat and lower proportions of carbohydrates.
This nutritional profile is typical of wet dog food.
Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu Ingredients
High-Quality Meat & Fish Ingredients
- Chicken
- Beef
- Salmon
Mossy Oak makes use of three of the most common meat and fish ingredients used in dog food. These are the staples of the industry, thanks to their relatively low cost and high nutritional value.
Despite their lower cost and high use, these ingredients are not inferior to more premium options and are excellent protein and fat sources.
Other Notable Ingredients
Brown Rice is one of the most common grain ingredients found in dog food. Its primary purpose is to provide a base of carbohydrates in a dog food recipe, and it is a very cost-effective ingredient for this purpose.
Brown Rice is considered to be superior to White Rice or other Rice ingredients thanks to the additional fiber and micronutrients it can provide.
Potatoes are another staple carbohydrate-providing ingredient. They are an extremely dense source of carbohydrates, which means it’s important their portion size is not too large else the overall proportion of carbohydrates can be excessive.
Sadly Potatoes do not provide significant nutrition beyond their carbohydrate content. You can learn more about Potatoes in our article Potatoes, Potato Protein & Potato Starch in Dog Food.
Whole Grain Corn and Corn Gluten Meal are two highly controversial ingredients. Countless dog owners swear by Corn and think it can provide excellent nutrition, but many others will avoid it at all costs.
While it is a fact that Corn can provide nutrition in the form of carbohydrates and plant-based protein, many believe it can have adverse health effects.
Chicken Fat is a regular addition to dog food recipes and is used to enhance their flavor and boost the overall levels of animal-based fat.
Chicken Fat is an excellent choice for this task, given its low cost and high availability. You can learn more about Chicken Fat in Chicken Fat In Dog Food.
Dried Beet Pulp is another common feature of dry dog food recipes. It is used as a low-cost source of soluble fiber.
Dietary fiber can be critical to some dogs to ensure they maintain regular stools and digestion. Outside of its fiber content, Beet Pulp provides little nutrition. Read more in Dried Beet Pulp In Dog Food.
Alfalfa, which is also known as lucerne, is used in pet food as a source of beneficial vitamins and minerals.
Many believe these micronutrients can provide dogs with several health benefits. Learn more about these potential benefits in Alfalfa In Dog Food.
Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on what kind of animal testing or feeding trials, if any, that Mossy Oak participates in.
We strongly believe that invasive or laboratory-style testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice and one which we hope will see a significant decline.
Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu Recalls
Based on our research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), we can find no evidence that Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu dog food products have ever been recalled, which makes Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu a recall-free dog food brand.
Given the small scale of the brand and its relatively young age, this may not be as impressive as some other brands but is still noteworthy.
We hope that Mossy Oak can continue its high standards in safety and quality to ensure this recall-free record is maintained in the coming years.
Despite this, we always encourage pet owners to be vigilant of any future recalls of Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu or any other pet food brand to ensure their pets remain healthy and safe.
Best of Mossy Oak Nature’s Menu
Nature’s Menu Real Beef & Brown Rice Recipe Review
Mossy Oak’s Beef & Brown Rice is one of two dry food recipes available from their Nature’s Menu brand.
It uses a mix of Beef and Chicken Meal as its two primary ingredients. Seeing two meat ingredients at the top of the ingredient list is a good sign and ensures that there is a sufficient proportion of animal-based protein and fat.
Meat meals like Chicken Meal often scare some dog owners, but they should not be afraid. Meat meal such as Chicken Meal has simply had their moisture removed before manufacturing which means it is an extremely dense source of nutrition.
Sadly, the recipe’s plant-based ingredients are less impressive and consist of Ground Rice, Soybean Meal, Whole Grain Corn, Brown Rice, and Corn Gluten Meal.
Many of these ingredients have a bad reputation in the industry, as they are highly processed.
Despite this, they provide a mix of carbohydrates and dietary fiber.
Nature’s Menu Salmon & Potato Formula Review
Mossy Oak’s canned dog food range is slightly larger than its dry range and has three recipes. We’ve chosen to highlight the Salmon recipe.
While you may imagine the above formula has a strong focus on Salmon, in fact, its primary ingredient is Chicken.
Despite this confusion, the mix of Chicken and Salmon provides a strong base of animal and fish-based protein and fat, which is ideal for a dog’s diet.
The recipe also includes a portion of Potatoes and Brown Rice, which provide a modest proportion of carbohydrates.
Flaxseed Meal and Sunflower Oil are also present in small quantities and provide beneficial fats such as the Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

My dog loves the beef and vegetable canned food by itself or as a topper. He is a high energy boxer pit mix and is a slim dog for the amount of food he eats, once he adjusted to the wet food added he began to have more defined muscle and gain more weight, always trying to get him as much protein as possible and this is working! Thanx mossy oak looking forward to improved higher protein formulas from you guys for my chappy to try!!!
Have tried every kind of canned dog food out there, but my female turns her nose up at them. Tried your salmon and potatoes and she ate that very well. Am pleased and will be buying this again. Just wish I could buy it online. Would ensure that I could get it when I needed it.
The only food my dog has ever had and she loves it all flavors of dry and canned food
My pups loved the salmon and potatoes. Just not always available. Would love to buy it in bulk!
Where can I purchase larger bag sizes I have 3 dogs that eat this. And I can say my aussie is the reason I tried ur dog food. He has always had a hard time going to the bathroom. On this he does not have a Hard time. I’m considering mixing wet and dry for them. I did the for Christmas and when I opened the can I actually got a little hunger feeling. That canned dog food looked good. In fact I told my daughter this over noodles sounds pretty good. She’s 16 and said I’m watching you cook for now on. I’m not eating dog food. I laughed I was just saying that it looks good enough for humans. I’m picky over my dog food. It looked and smelled good. Most canned dog food smells nasty. I would like to purchase larger bags
