RedPaw Information
RedPaw was founded in 1992 by Eric, who raised huskies. Eric created the brand and its recipes with these high-intensity dogs in mind, who he knew needed impressive nutrition from high-quality sources.
All of RedPaw’s dog food is made in a facility in Wisconsin, USA. It isn’t clear whether this facility is only used to produce RedPaw products, or it is shared with other pet food brands. Also, all the ingredients used in this production facility are sourced from North America.
RedPaw is available from select pet food retailers across the United States and Canada. However, they are not available from many online pet food websites such as Chewy and Petflow but are available from some select sites.
RedPaw Product Range
RedPaw has a minimal range of dog food products when compared to the huge ranges provided by other brands. This range is split into two between recipes for working dogs and non-working dogs.
Despite their range’s small size, RedPaw provides some specialty recipes, such as a recipe for puppies.
RedPaw Nutrition
RedPaw dog food recipes provide nutrition that is generally above-average when compared to other dog food brands.
This nutritional profile includes above-average proportions of protein and fat and below-average proportions of carbohydrates.
Below is an example of the nutrition provided by one of RedPaw’s better recipes.
However, RedPaw’s recipes for working dogs provide nutrition that is significantly above-average.
This type of nutritional profile is required as working dogs are far more active and have much bigger requirements for protein and fat than non-working dogs.

RedPaw Ingredients
High-Quality Meat & Fish Ingredients

RedPaw uses a tiny range of meat ingredients in its recipes. This range focuses on Chicken and Pork ingredients such as Chicken, Chicken Meal, and Pork Meal.
Chicken is the most common meat ingredient used in dog food recipes and for good reason. It is cost-effective and an excellent source of high-quality protein and fat.
Many dog owners are afraid of meat meal ingredients like Chicken Meal, but they shouldn’t be.
Meat Meals are meat that has had its moisture removed, which makes it a far more nutritionally dense ingredient, high in protein and fat.
Other Notable Ingredients
Menhaden Fish Meal features in almost all of RedPaw’s recipes. Menhaden Fish are harvested for their oil, but once this has been removed, a nutritious and affordable ingredient is left behind.
Using Menhaden Fish Meal to improve the nutrition of a recipe is much preferred to plant-based alternatives like Pea Protein.

RedPaw uses a mix of grain ingredients in its recipes, such as Barley, Oatmeal, and Brown Rice. These grain ingredients provide carbohydrates, plant-based protein, fiber, and select vitamins and minerals.

There are many pet owners who are strongly against the use of grain ingredients and refuse to feed their pets any grain-inclusive food. The grain ingredients mentioned above are preferred to others by many, as they are seen as “less processed”.
However, one of RedPaw’s recipes uses Corn, which is a more controversial addition. Corn is seen by many as a low-quality ingredient that is highly processed and not suitable for a dog’s diet.
Chicken Fat is used in dog food recipes, such as those from RedPaw, to improve its flavor and boost the levels of animal fat present. Chicken Fat is chosen because it is affordable and easy to source.

RedPaw makes use of Beet Pulp in their recipes, like many other dog food brands.
Beet Pulp is added to dog food to provide soluble fiber, which can be important to some dogs to ensure regular digestion and stools. Outside of its fiber content, Beet Pulp provides little nutrition.

Flaxseed is one of the best plant-based sources of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids, which is why it is so commonly seen in pet food.
These fatty acids can provide several health benefits, including an improvement in the condition of a dog’s skin and coat.

Brewers Yeast is another minor ingredient added to RedPaw recipes to provide potential health benefits.

RedPaw Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on whether RedPaw participates in invasive or laboratory testing of animals.
Many pet food brands avoid disclosing detailed information on their testing regiment because of fears of a backlash from their customer base.
We strongly believe that laboratory or invasive testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice. We hope that in the future, it will be eliminated.
RedPaw Recalls
Based on our research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), RedPaw is a recall-free brand.
Given that RedPaw has been sold for over thirty years, this is impressive and shows that they take the safety and quality of their production process seriously.

Best of RedPaw
X-Series Perform Review
The above recipe from RedPaw is probably their best non-working dog recipe thanks to its excellent nutrition. It contains 32% protein and 20% fat by weight, which is significantly above-average.
This nutritional profile is thanks to a large portion of Chicken, Menhaden Fish Meal, and Pork. While the portion size of these ingredients individually is not immense, the combination is.
Outside of that meat and fish content, the recipe contains a portion of Oatmeal and Barley, which provide carbohydrates, fiber, and select vitamins and minerals.
X-Series Puppy Review
As we mentioned earlier, despite RedPaw’s small product range, they do produce a puppy formula. This puppy formula is very similar to RedPaw’s adult dog food recipes, which could make a transition between them easy.
Similar to the above Performance recipe, the puppy recipe uses a mix of Chicken, Menhaden Fish Meal, and Pork to provide an above-average proportion of protein and fat.
Grains are once again the core plant-based ingredients, and this recipe uses a mix of Barley, Oatmeal, and Brown Rice. This mix of staple grains provides carbohydrates and fiber.
