Forza10 Information
Forza10 is a smaller niche dog food brand with products aimed at dogs with health issues such as sensitive skin, kidney issues, immune issues, and more.
Forza10 was founded in 1995 by Dr. Canello, a veterinarian and expert on food intolerances for pets.
Since 1995, Forza10 has grown significantly and is now sold in over 20 countries worldwide, including the USA, Canada, Japan, and many EU countries.
The production of Forza10 recipes takes place in Italy and Iceland, which is unusual, especially for food that is sold in North America.
Because of the serious nature of the conditions that Forza10 recipes aim to address, Forza10 would normally be prescribed to a dog by a professional vet rather than purchased from a traditional pet food store.
However, if you have got a prescription, you can purchase Forza10 from some online pet food retailers such as Chewy and Amazon.
Alternatively, you can use their Store Locator Tool to find a retailer near you.
Forza10 Product Range
Forza10 has a large range of dog food products available, which includes a mix of both dry food and wet/canned food, with dry food recipes making up the majority.
The range of health issues or situations that Forza10 has recipes to combat is significant, and there are very few missing.
Well-known examples include recipes for dogs with Sensitive Skin & Digestion, Reproducing Dogs, and those with immune system problems.
Forza10 Nutrition
Given that Forz10 recipes are designed for dogs with severe health issues or needs, the nutrition of these recipes often comes second and is of lesser importance than it would be for most dogs.
Despite this, the nutrition in Forza10 recipes varies significantly, with some providing very poor nutrition, low in protein and fat, and others providing above-average nutrition with high proportions of animal-based protein and fat.
If you’d like to learn more about canine nutrition, we’d highly recommend you check out our Dog Food Guide, where we go in-depth to discuss various topics of importance.
Forza10 Ingredients
Before we discuss Forza10’s ingredients, we want to point out a fantastic page on their website, which they call Nutritional Philosophy.
Here they provide a simple yet informative list of ingredients (with images) used in their recipes and the justification for their inclusion.
While this may not sound special, this is incredibly helpful for pet owners who aren’t as knowledgeable as others.
You can check this page out here.
High-Quality Meat & Fish Ingredients
- Anchovy Meal
Forza10 is unique because it does not use typical meat and fish ingredients in its recipes like almost all other dog food brands do.
Instead, it often sources its protein from other sources such as hydrolyzed protein, plant-based ingredients, or Anchovy Meal.
While this would normally be a concern or issue, given the purpose of Forza10 recipes, we will not comment.
Other Notable Ingredients
Various vegetable by-products such as Pea Protein, Pea Starch, Potato Starch, and Potato Protein are included in some Forza10 recipes.
These ingredients are often frowned upon when they are included in normal dog food recipes, as they are used by some dog food brands to deceive consumers about the presence of some ingredients or inflate overall protein proportions.
However, in Forza10 recipes, these ingredients are more likely present to tailor a recipe to a serious health issue; for example, some dogs can not eat animal-based protein.
If you’d like to learn more about these vegetable by-products, we would highly recommend you read our articles Peas, Pea Protein, Pea Flour and Pea Fiber in Dog Food & Potatoes, Potato Protein & Potato Starch in Dog Food.
Beet Pulp is an extremely common addition to dog food recipes across the industry and is added to provide soluble fiber.
This soluble fiber can be critical to some dogs to ensure they keep regular digestion and stools. However, outside of this fiber content, Beet Pulp provides very little nutrition to dogs.
If you’d like to learn more about Beet Pulp, take a read our article Dried Beet Pulp In Dog Food.
Brewers Yeast is another minor ingredient that is commonly added to dog food recipes. However, rather than fiber, Brewers Yeast is added because some believe it can provide various health benefits to dogs.
However, these health benefits are far from conclusive, and some doubt whether they will have any noticeable effect on most dogs.
You can learn more about the potential health benefits of Brewers Yeast in our article Brewers Yeast In Dog Food.
A far less common ingredient found in some of Forza10’s recipes is Kelp which is also known as Seaweed.
Similar to Brewers Yeast, it is included for its potential health benefits to dogs and some micronutrients it can provide.
Examples of micronutrients include high levels of Iron and Calcium, and some of its potential benefits include reduced dental plaque and improved condition of a dog’s skin and fur.
We’ve created a dedicated article to discuss Kelp’s occasional use in dog food recipes called Kelp In Pet Food.
Forza10 Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on what type of animal testing, if any, Forza10 takes part in.
Given that Forza10 is a brand designed to combat severe health issues in dogs, we hope that Forza10 takes part in in-depth studies and trials to ensure that their food is suitable for these dogs.
Many smaller brands avoid disclosing detailed information about their animal testing or trials as they fear backlash from their customer base.
Regardless, we strongly believe that invasive or laboratory-style testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice and one which we hope will see a significant decline.
Forza10 Recalls
Based on our research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), we do not believe that any Forza10 products have ever been recalled, which means that Forza10 is a recall-free dog food brand.
This is an impressive record, given the brand is 25 years old and is sold in over 20 countries around the world.
Maintaining a recall-free record and avoiding issues such as contamination and mold is extremely important for a brand like Forza10, given that most of their customer’s dogs are already sick or vulnerable.
Despite this recall-free record, we will always recommend that consumers are watchful for any future recalls of Forza10 or any other pet food brand to ensure their pets remain healthy and safe.
