Nutriment Information
Nutriment is a provider of raw pet food that was founded in the United Kingdom in 2013. They are strong believers in Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diets for pets, also known as BARF.
They is one of a number of pet food brands in the UK to take advantage of the increased popularity of BARF diets.
For those of you wondering where they produce their food, Nutriment’s products are produced at their Laverstoke Park Farm, which is a production facility in Overton, Hampshire.
Nutriment proudly states that they attempt to source as many of their ingredients from the United Kingdom as possible.
Also, they have taken several measures to be sustainable both in the origins of their ingredients and the packaging they use.
Nutriment products are available to purchase online on their website or from several hundred smaller pet food stores in the UK and Ireland.
Nutriment Product Range
Dog Food
Nutriment has an extensive product range of dog food products when compared to other brands. Their size is especially apparent when compared to other providers of raw dog food, whose product ranges are often far smaller.
While the bulk of Nutriment’s products are designed for adult dogs, they do cater to some niches, including puppies and senior dogs, as well as those with some health issues such as Kidney or Liver problems.
Lastly, Nutriment also has quite a large range of dog treats available such as Antlers, Chews, and Bones.
Cat Food
Sadly, Nutriment’s cat food range is much smaller in size than its dog food range. However, the type of recipes provided are quite similar and are all raw food.
Because of this smaller size, Nutriment does not produce as many specialized recipes or combinations of ingredients in its cat food range and only has recipes for adult cats.
Nutriment Nutrition
Dog Food
Given that many of Nutriment’s products are made up of raw meat and fish ingredients, it is no surprise that they provide excellent nutrition.
These meat and fish ingredients provide excellent nutrition, high in highly digestive protein and fat.
You can see an example of this below in the nutrition profile of their Beef formula.
As you can see, the proportion of protein and fat in this recipe is colossal and makes up 99% of its nutritional value, with carbohydrates making up a negligible amount (1%).
However, most of Nutriment’s recipes are very high in fat compared to traditional dog food, which means owners must be careful not to overfeed and cause weight gain or obesity.
If you’d like to learn more about canine nutrition, we’d highly recommend you check out our Dog Food Guide.
Cat Food
The nutrition provided by Nutriment cat food recipes is extremely similar to their dog food recipes. This nutritional profile includes high proportions of animal-based protein and fat.
This kind of nutritional profile that is high in animal-based protein and fat is exceptionally suitable for cats who are obligate carnivores.
An obligate carnivore thrives best on a diet of exclusively meat and fish ingredients and has no requirement to consume plant-based ingredients.
If you’d like to learn more about what it means to be an obligate carnivore, be sure to take a read of our Cat Food Guide.
Nutriment Ingredients
Nutriment goes above and beyond many pet food brands and gives some detailed information about the source and the nutrition found in its individual ingredients.
For example, they mention that their Turkey is sourced from a family-owned business in Hertfordshire. We’d recommend you check out their Our Ingredients page if you’d like to read more of this type of information about Nutriment’s ingredients.
High-Quality Ingredients
- Chicken
- Turkey
- Duck
- Beef
- Lamb
- Venison
- Salmon
Nutriment uses a moderate range of meat and fish ingredients, most of which are sourced from within the United Kingdom.
These ingredients provide excellent nutrition, high in protein, and fat, which should be at the core of every dog and cat’s diet.
Nutriment also makes use of some organ meat ingredients in its recipes, such as Liver and Heart.
These organ meats are great additions to pet food recipes and can improve the flavor and provide high levels of vitamins and minerals that are not abundant in traditional meat cuts.
You can learn more about the use of Organ Meats in pet food recipes in our article Organ Meat Ingredients In Pet Food.
Other Notable Ingredients
Nutriment utilizes a small range of vegetable ingredients in some of its recipes. Examples of these include Carrots, Squash, and Broccoli.
These vegetable ingredients are not common inclusions in pet food as you’d normally expect to see vegetables like Peas, Potatoes, and Lentils.
However, despite their low popularity among other pet food brands, these vegetables are great additions to dog food and can provide a modest proportion of carbohydrates and fiber to supplement the large portion of meat and fish that is usually present.
Salmon Oil is found in some Nutriment recipes. It is a common addition to premium dog food and has a number of uses.
It helps to improve the taste of recipes, increase their proportion of fat, and can boost levels of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids.
Nutriment Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on what type of animal testing, if any, Nutriment participates in.
Many smaller pet food brands avoid disclosing detailed information about their animal testing due to fear of backlash from their customers.
We strongly believe that invasive or laboratory-style testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice and one which we hope will be severely reduced.
Nutriment Recalls
Based on our research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), we can find no evidence that Nutriment products have ever been recalled, which makes Nutriment a recall-free pet food brand.
Safety and quality processes during production are especially important for pet food brands to produce raw dog food as there is a significantly increased risk by not cooking the food.
Therefore, even if Nutriment is a relatively young pet food brand, having a recall-free record producing raw dog food is impressive and something that should be noted.
Regardless of their current recall record, we encourage pet owners to be vigilant of any future recalls from Nutriment to ensure their pets remain healthy and safe.
