As you may have guessed, Dr. Tim’s pet food was founded by Dr. Tim in 2004, who is a famous veterinarian. It is said that he created his first kibble recipes in his garage with a cement mixer.
Dr. Tim strongly believes in a meat-based diet, high in animal-based protein and fat. This belief is reflected in his recipes.
Dr. Tim’s is also a transparent brand when compared to others and gives information on its website about the source of all of its ingredients. This level of transparency is appreciated, and many other brands could strive to achieve this.
Dr. Tim’s pet food products are produced in the United at a manufacturing facility in Kansas, which is owned by Alphia Foods.

Dog Food
Dr. Tim’s has a moderately sized product range of dog food. However, all of their recipes are dry dog food recipes, and they do not sell wet/canned dog food.
Within the range of dry dog food are a number of specialty recipes, including those for very active dogs and those that need a lower calorie diet.
Dr. Tim’s also has variety between grain-free dog food recipes and grain-inclusive dog food recipes.
Cat Food
Dr. Tim’s has a tiny cat food range consisting of a single dry cat food recipe and a wet cat food recipe.
Because of this small product range, Dr. Tim’s does not produce any specialty cat food, such as kitten food or senior cat food.
It is also noteworthy that Dr. Tim’s single cat food recipe is grain-inclusive and not grain-free.

Legumes can provide impressive nutrition for a plant-based ingredient, with high levels of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and select vitamins and minerals.

Potatoes and Tapioca are both starch ingredients that are found in some of Dr. Tim’s recipes. They are very dense sources of carbohydrates compared to other plant-based ingredients, and so their portion size needs to be tightly controlled.

Dr. Tim’s Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on what type of animal testing, if any, that Dr. Tim’s pet food participates in.
Many pet food brands avoid disclosing information on how they test their foods as they fear consumer backlash.
We strongly believe that laboratory and invasive testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice and one which should be eliminated.
Dr. Tim’s Recalls
Based on our research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), Dr. Tim’s products have never been recalled.
Given that the brand is approaching twenty years in operation, this is an impressive feat. This lack of recalls shows that they take the safety and quality of their production process seriously.
In spite of this, we encourage all pet owners to be careful and vigilant of any future recalls of Dr. Tim’s or any other pet food brand.

The above RPM Salmon & Pork recipe is one of our favorite from Dr. Tim’s range. This is thanks to its excellent nutrition and focuses on a high-quality ingredient in Salmon.
Salmon is often favored over other ingredients as it is an excellent source of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids. These fatty acids are believed by many to provide dogs with several health benefits.
However, there is also a sizeable portion of Pork present, which is an unusual addition to pet food. Many of the larger brands choose not to use Pork in favor of ingredients like Chicken, Beef, and Turkey.
Dr. Tim’s uses a large range of plant-based ingredients in this recipe, including Potatoes, Peas, Tapioca, and Chickpeas. This mix of starch and legume ingredients provides a modest proportion of carbohydrates and some dietary fiber.

Given the lack of variety in Dr. Tim’s cat food range, we weren’t given much choice on our favorite recipe. Despite this, the above Chase formula is worth discussing.
The recipe has a huge portion of Chicken Meal at its center. Meat meals such as Chicken Meal are often offputting to pet owners, but they should not be.
Meat meals have simply had their moisture removed in advance, which means that they are an incredibly nutritionally dense ingredient.
Outside of this Chicken Meal, the recipe has a portion of Brown Rice. Brown Rice is one of the most common grain ingredients and can provide this recipe with a modest portion of carbohydrates and fiber.

Do you sell samples?
I was ordering this food on another website. I found out that I could buy directly from the manufacturer. I thought fresh order every time I ordered 1st bag no problem. I opened the 2nd bag and my dog was hesitant to eat. It progressively got worse. My dog was sick for days. Contacted the company said it was 5 months since I ordered and they don’t take back open bags or give credit. Didn’t even ask how my dog was or what I had to do for her. I would expect this from the big popular foods but not a place like this. Never again will I order this food.
