Eagle Pack Information
Eagle Pack was founded in 1970; however, it was known as Hy-Ration at this time.
In 2007, Eagle Pack was sold from its original owners to the pet food conglomerate WellPet LLC.
WellPet LLC owns several other pet food brands that you may be familiar with. Examples include Old Mother Hubbard, Wellness, and Holistic Select.
Their headquarters are in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and all of their food is produced in the United States.
There is no detailed information on where Eagle Pack sources its ingredients from, but it is presumed that most are sourced from North America.
Eagle Pack is available for purchase from a huge range of physical retail stores across the United States, as well as many of the large online pet food sellers like Chewy, Petflow, and Amazon.
Eagle Pack Product Range
Dog Food
Eagle Pack has a moderately sized range of dog food recipes. This range contains a mix of dry food recipes and wet/canned recipes.
There is specialization in the dry dog food recipes, including some for large and small breed dogs, a reduced-fat recipe, and high activity recipe.
Eagle Pack does not produce any breed-specific recipes like some of the larger brands do.
Cat Food
At this time, Eagle Pack does not produce any cat food recipes. However, they used to have a small range of dry cat food recipes.
It is not clear why Eagle Pack discontinued this range of cat food recipes.
Eagle Pack Nutrition
The nutrition offered by Eagle Pack recipes varies significantly. Some recipes provide above-average nutrition that is high in protein and fat.
However, there are other recipes that are average to below-average. These recipes have very high levels of carbohydrates and minimal meat and fish content.
Below is an example of one of Eagle Pack’s typical recipes.

Eagle Pack Ingredients
High-Quality Meat & Fish Ingredients
- Chicken
- Pork
- Lamb
- Turkey
Eagle Pack uses a moderate range of high-quality meat ingredients, including the above. These ingredients are staples of the industry and are used due to their reasonable price point and excellent nutritional value.
Eagle Pack does not make use of any of the less common meat or fish ingredients in its recipes. Examples of these would include Rabbit, Venison, Bison, and more.
You can learn more about these ingredients and why they are used in Best Hypoallergenic Dog Foods Guide.
Other Notable Ingredients
Eagle Pack makes use of select grain ingredients such as Brown Rice, Oatmeal, and Barley. Grain ingredients are controversial additions to pet food recipes, with many pet owners preferring that they are not used.
However, these grain ingredients are considered to be some of the better ones available. This advantage is as they can provide additional nutritional value beyond their carbohydrate content.
You can learn more about Barley in our article Barley In Dog Food.
Some Eagle Pack recipes make use of the legume ingredient – Peas. Peas are an extremely common addition to pet food recipes along with other legumes like Chickpeas and Lentils.
They are so popular as they can provide carbohydrates, fiber, and a high proportion of protein for a plant-based ingredient.
However, in recent years, there have been links between the high use of legumes in pet food and a rise in Canine Heart Disease. While this link has not yet been proven definitive, it is concerning.
You can read more about this concerning link here.
Chicken Fat is another regular addition to pet food recipes and is used by pet food manufacturers to improve the flavor of a recipe as well as boost the overall proportion of animal-based fat.
Chicken Fat is an excellent choice for this as it is low-cost and easy to source.

Tomato Pomace is one of the most common minor ingredients in dog food. It is used as it is an easily sourceable and low-priced source of soluble fiber.
Fiber can be important for dogs to ensure they have regular digestion and stools.

Brewers Yeast is added to dog food as it is believed to provide beneficial health effects as well as select vitamins and minerals.
While these effects have not been conclusively proven, many dog food brands utilize the ingredient.

Almost all pet food brands make use of Flaxseed as a minor ingredient. It is added because it is an excellent plant-based source of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids.
These fatty acids are thought by many to provide health benefits such as an improvement in the condition of a dog’s skin and coat.

Eagle Pack Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on what type of animal testing, if any, that Eagle Pack participates in.
Many pet food brands avoid disclosing information about their animal testing regimes for fear of customer backlash.
We strongly believe that laboratory and invasive testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice and one which should be eliminated.
Eagle Pack Recalls
Based on our research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), Eagle Pack products have never been recalled.
However, there have been recalls of products that were produced by their manufacturing partner, Diamond.
This includes the recall of Taste of the Wild recipes, which you can read about here.
We encourage all pet owners to be careful and vigilant of any future recalls of Eagle Pack or any other pet food brand.

Best of Eagle Pack
Power Adult Review
Check Price On Chewy
As we mentioned earlier, the nutrition provided by many Eagle Pack recipes varies, but one of their best recipes is the above Power Adult.
It contains a significantly above-average proportion of protein and fat (30% protein and 19% fat). This nutritional profile would be suitable for the majority of dogs, especially those who are more active.
This nutrition is thanks to a large portion of Chicken Meal and Pork Meal. These two meat meal ingredients are dense sources of nutrition as they have already had their moisture removed.
The recipe then uses a mix of Brown Rice, Peas, and Barley to provide a modest proportion of carbohydrates and sufficient dietary fiber.
Lamb Formula Review
Check Price On Chewy
Many dogs really enjoy wet dog food, and while it is far less cost-effective than dry dog food, it is worth consideration.
Eagle Pack only has a small range of wet dog food, but the above Lamb formula caught our eye as Lamb is a less common pet food ingredient.
Lamb tends to contain a higher proportion of fat than leaner meat cuts like Chicken and Turkey, which can make it extremely appealing to dogs. This is reflected in the nutrition offered by this recipe, which is 9% protein and 6% fat.
As you would guess, Lamb is the primary ingredient, but there is also a portion of Lamb Liver. Organ meat, such as Liver, is an excellent addition and can provide vitamins and minerals that are not abundant in traditional meat cuts.
Lastly, the recipe uses a small portion of Brown Rice, Carrots, and Barley to provide a modest proportion of carbohydrates and fiber.
