Nutra-Nuggets splits its products into two buckets, one range for the United States and one for international consumers. It’s not clear why this is, but the recipes within each range are similar but not identical.
All Nutra-Nuggets products are produced in the United States by Diamond Pet Food. The facilities are in California, Missouri, South Carolina, and Arkansas.
This is a trait that Nutra-Nuggets shares with many other small pet food brands, as Diamond is one of the largest producers.
Nutra-Nuggets Product Range
Nutra-Nuggets has a moderate product range in the USA and internationally.
They only produce dry dog food, but there are some niche recipes such as those for puppies, and for weight loss.
Nutra-Nuggets has a very small cat food range. Given its much smaller size, there is less variety and no specialty recipes, such as those for kittens or senior cats.
The nutrition offered by Nutra-Nuggets dog food recipes varies significantly. Some recipes offered below-average nutrition, while others offer above-average nutrition.
We recommend reading the Guaranteed Analysis of any Nutra-Nuggets recipe you are considering to ensure it one of those with above-average nutrition. This would include a high proportion of protein and fat.
Below is an example of the nutrition offered by a Nutra-Nuggets recipe.
Given the much smaller product range, the nutrition varies less in Nutra-Nuggets cat food recipes. We would describe the nutrition offered by Nutra-Nuggets cat food as average.
This includes average proportions of protein and fat. Cats are obligate carnivores and therefore, would excel best on a diet high in animal protein and fat.
High-Quality Meat & Fish Ingredients
- Chicken Meal
- Lamb Meal
Nutra-Nuggets has a very small number of high-quality meat ingredients, which are seen above. However, given that their product range is not extensive and they produce lower-cost recipes, this is not surprising.
Chicken Meal, in particular, is an extremely dense and cost-effective source of animal protein and fat, which is almost certainly why it sees extensive use.
Other Notable Ingredients
Nutra-Nuggets makes use of an extensive range of grain ingredients, including Maize, Barley, Rice Bran, Brewers Rice, Brown Rice, and Oat Flakes.
The quality of these ingredients varies significantly. Many would consider Brown Rice or Barley to be reasonably high-quality additions to dog food. However, ingredients like Rice Bran and Brewers Rice are almost universally considered to be low-quality.
Chicken Fat is a regular addition to many dog food recipes. It is a cost-effective way of increasing the overall proportion of animal fat and improves the flavor of the formula. Read more about Chicken Fat in our article, Chicken Fat In Dog Food.
Beet Pulp is also another regular addition to dog food. However, it does not provide any significant nutrition outside of its fiber content. This fiber can be incredibly important to select dogs who struggle with regular digestion. Learn more about the use of Beet Pulp in our article Dried Beet Pulp In Dog Food.
Nutra-Nuggets Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on what type of animal testing, if any, that Nutra-Nuggets participates in.
We strongly believe that invasive or laboratory-style testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice and one which we hope will see a significant decline.
While this is an important trait and selling point of Nutra-Nuggets, we always encourage consumers to be careful of any future recalls of Nutra-Nuggets or any other pet food brands.
