Sheba is an established cat food brand that is part of the Mars Petcare umbrella along with other brands like Pedigree, Whiskas, Royal Canin, Iams, and more.
Based on our research, much of Sheba’s product range is produced in the United States at Mars facilities; however, some of their products are produced overseas in countries like Thailand.
While this may seem concerning, there are several other wet cat food brands who also have their food produced in this region, such as Weruva and Tiki Pets.
Sheba cat food products are widely available for sale and can be found inside large retail pet food stores such as PetSmart and Walmart.
You can also purchase Sheba online from some of the large pet food websites like Amazon and Chewy.
Sheba Product Range
Sheba has an extensive range of wet/canned cat food products but does not produce any dry cat food. However, they do have a small range of cat treats to supplement their wet cat food range.
Within this wet cat, food range is a large variety of recipe types, including Pate recipes, In Gravy Recipes, and Medley recipes.
Given that Sheba is a cat food brand that exclusively sells wet cat food over dry cat food, the nutrition offered by its products tends to be better than many other brands.
Even when compared to other wet cat food brands, Sheba provides nutrition that is average to above-average, which is impressive given the brand’s price point.
This above-average nutrition included high proportions of protein and fat and low to tiny proportions of carbohydrates.
You can see an example of this nutrition below.
This kind of diet aligns well with a cat’s natural obligate carnivore diet, which would contain little plant matter. You can learn more about what it means to be an obligate carnivore in our Cat Food Guide.
High-Quality Meat & Fish Ingredients
Sheba utilizes a moderate range of high-quality meat and fish ingredients in its recipes, including all of the above. These ingredients can act as dense sources of nutrition in the form of animal-based protein and fat.
Several of these ingredients are industry favorites and are heavily utilized by most brands. Prime examples include Chicken, Salmon, and Turkey.
These ingredients are so popular among manufacturers as they are relatively low-cost, easy to source, and nutritious.
Other Notable Ingredients
Sheba has a small range of wet cat food recipes that include some plant matter such as Carrots and Green Beans. While these ingredients are not an ideal component of a cat’s diet, their portion size is relatively small.
Vegetables such as this can provide a mix of nutrition in the form of carbohydrates, plant-based protein, fiber, and more.
Many of Sheba’s wet cat food recipes contain a small portion of Tapioca Starch. Tapioca is a starch ingredient that is similar to Potatoes or Sweet Potatoes and, as such, is a dense source of carbohydrates.
However, the starch present in Sheba recipes isn’t used to provide carbohydrates but to act as a binding agent to help hold the food together in a consistent texture and appearance.
Tapioca Starch isn’t the only binding agent present, though, and Sheba also regularly uses Sunflower Oil. Sunflower Oil is a plant-based oil and is regularly used in food for human consumption.
It is a dense source of fat and can help boost the overall level of fat in a cat food recipe; however, some prefer animal-based fats over plant-based fat like Sunflower Oil.
Last but not least, Sheba utilizes some gum-based binding agents such as Guar Gum and Xanthan Gum. These gums are extremely common in wet dog food and wet cat food recipes.
Outside of their binding properties, these gum ingredients provide little to no nutrition to cats.
Sheba Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on whether Sheba participates in invasive or laboratory testing of animals.
However, given that Sheba is part of the Mars Petcare group, they likely have similar testing and feed trials in place as other Mars brands do.
We strongly believe that laboratory or invasive testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice. We hope that in the future, it will be eliminated.
Based on our research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), Sheba has not issued any recalls and is, therefore, a recall-free brand.
Given that Sheba is a longstanding cat food brand, this recall-free record is impressive. However, other Mars Petcare brands have issued recalls in the past, and we’d recommend visiting our review pages of these brands to learn more.
Despite this recall-free record, we always suggest that pet owners remain vigilant of any future recalls of Sheba or any other pet food brand.

Premium Pate Delicate Salmon Entree Review
Given the similarity between Sheba recipes, it can be challenging to pick one recipe out, but the above Salmon recipe is very enticing.
It includes a large portion of Chicken and Salmon which are the recipe’s primary ingredients. These ingredients act as a dense source of animal or fish-based protein and fat.
Salmon, in particular, is an excellent choice for cat food and is high in the Omega 3 Fatty Acids when compared to other meat ingredients.
In addition to the Chicken and Salmon, there is a small portion of Poultry Liver which will enhance the flavor of the recipe and provide some beneficial vitamins and minerals.
Outside of these ingredients, there are no other notable inclusions and no plant-based ingredients such as starches or vegetable by-products.

My cat LOVES Sheba, however, her 2-legged mother has a problem opening them. I actually use a pair of pliers to get the cover off ,while she cries like she’s starving. Is there any way you could package it so it is easier for people like me to open?
